Music Beta set to be announced by Google

Google are set to announce a new service being dubbed as Music Beta by Google at their Google I/O 2011 conference. Indications show that the announcement, which is expected to be made later today, will unveil a new service to rival Amazon's Cloud Player. It is thought that the new service will allow users to upload music to the Cloud which can then be listened to via the use of a PC or Android mobile device.

It is being reported that Google don't have any agreements in place with any of the major record labels and as a result it will not be possible to purchase music via the service initially. It is widely expected that Apple will follow suit with a service of their own.

The Evolution of the Mobile Phone

On a day when Apple's brand has been valued at $153 billion I thought I would share with you an example of just how far technology has come. Our design manager (Oxford Epic Design) bought in an old phone just so we could see the progression made in the mobile phone industy.

The phone on the left is a Motorola 3200 which was introduced to the world in 1992. On the right hand side we have the Apple iPhone 4 which was released in the summer of 2010. The Motorola was fairly limited, at least compared to modern day mobiles, in that it could really only send and receive calls. Apple claims there are over 350,000 apps available for the iPhone which puts it streets ahead in terms of available features. All technology has to start somewhere, but it is very interesting to see how far it has come in what is really only a short period of time. The mind boggles as to how mobile phones will have progressed within the next 18 years.....bendy phones perhaps?
