The Evolution of the Mobile Phone

On a day when Apple's brand has been valued at $153 billion I thought I would share with you an example of just how far technology has come. Our design manager (Oxford Epic Design) bought in an old phone just so we could see the progression made in the mobile phone industy.

The phone on the left is a Motorola 3200 which was introduced to the world in 1992. On the right hand side we have the Apple iPhone 4 which was released in the summer of 2010. The Motorola was fairly limited, at least compared to modern day mobiles, in that it could really only send and receive calls. Apple claims there are over 350,000 apps available for the iPhone which puts it streets ahead in terms of available features. All technology has to start somewhere, but it is very interesting to see how far it has come in what is really only a short period of time. The mind boggles as to how mobile phones will have progressed within the next 18 years.....bendy phones perhaps?
